What Makes Gorgeous Stays So… Gorgeous?
This isn’t your average campground—and that’s a good thing. Even the name Gorgeous Stays is a clever nod to its location in the Nantahala Gorge. It’s a “Gorge-ous” place to stay in every sense of the word. Here’s what makes it truly one-of-a-kind:
- Glamping meets creativity: Stay in a dreamy glamping tent, a retrofitted bus-turned-sleeper, or even a rustic chicken coop that’s been lovingly transformed into a cozy space with real beds.
- Traditional tenters welcome: Prefer to pitch your own? They have elevated tent platforms to keep you high, dry, and happy.
- Campfires encouraged: Fire pits are available throughout the property for those classic marshmallow-toasting, story-swapping nights.
- Onsite lodge & store: Need a snack, gear, or just a friendly face? The lodge has a small general store and a front porch that’s practically begging for you to swing, sip something warm, and make new friends.

- Stretch it out: One of the owners is a semi-retired chiropractor who not only offers help to sore hikers but also leads stretching sessions. Yes, really.
- Bathhouse perks: Not only are the bathrooms clean and hot-shower-ready, but they’ve also thought of everything—like extra clothing stocked in both the men’s and women’s rooms for hikers and campers in need.
- Laundry service: Because trail life gets messy. (This is a done-for-you service. See the lodge for details.)
- Picnic tables & grills: For when you want to cook for yourself.
- Microwaves & refrigerators: All tiny houses and glamping structures offer these comforts of home.
- Special Activities: They are always looking to try something new. Check their web-site regularly to stay up to date on what they’re doing next.
From the porch swings and giant Connect 4 to the way the owners know everyone’s name by the time you leave, this is the kind of place that feeds your soul while it rests your soles.

Unique Stays
The Crown Jewel Double Decker Bus

This is the stay that made me extend my trip—and once you see it, you’ll understand why.
The Crown Jewel (listed as “Signature Cabin” in booking platforms such as Expedia) is a vintage double-decker bus turned full-blown glamping fantasy, complete with a quirky Queen of England theme that’s equal parts royal and ridiculous (in the best way).
Inside, it comfortably sleeps up to 6 people with 4 single beds and 1 queen bed, making it perfect for families, friend groups, or anyone who’s ever dreamed of glamping in a storybook setting.

There’s a kitchen, a full-size refrigerator, and even a private glamping bathroom—so yes, you can live like royalty and still make s’mores outside by your private fire pit (which I absolutely did).
Everywhere you look, there’s a detail to smile about—from British props and playful photo ops to themed magazines and cozy décor.
I truly felt like a kid again… in the best possible way.
Travel-Inn Skoolie (Bus)

National Parks on Wheels
If you’ve ever wanted to road trip through all the National Parks—but without actually driving—this bus is for you. The Travel-Inn Skoolie (Listed as “Exclusive Cabin” in booking platforms such as Expedia) is a renovated school bus turned cozy glamping stay with a charming National Parks theme that’s perfect for adventure lovers.
It sleeps up to 6 people, with 4 twin beds
and the only king-size bed on the property (yep, king-size—in a bus!).
It’s the kind of place where you can stretch out after a day of exploring and still feel like you’re camping in style.
With wood accents, nature-themed decor, and just the right touch of wanderlust, this bus feels like a tribute to the great outdoors—without sacrificing comfort.
Vintage Shasta Camper (Under Renovation)

This retro beauty is currently getting a little TLC, but keep an eye out—once the Vintage Shasta Camper Van is done with its makeover, it’s bound to be one of the cutest spots on the property.
With its classic charm and cozy camper vibes, this stay will be perfect for travelers who love a touch of nostalgia mixed with modern comfort. Stay tuned… this one’s worth the wait!
The Chicken Coup
Rustic Shelter with Roost-Worthy Charm

Yes, it was actually a chicken coop once—and honestly, that just makes it cooler.
This rustic retreat is a step up from tent camping, offering four solid walls, a roof to keep you dry, and three cozy bunk beds nestled inside.
There’s no electricity, no heat, and no A/C, but what it lacks in amenities, it makes up for in quirky charm—complete with fun chicken-themed decor to remind you you’re in one seriously cluckin’ unique spot.
The beds are rented individually, so you may be bunking with fellow travelers unless you book all three.
It’s a popular stop for Appalachian Trail hikers looking for a simple, dry, and memorable night’s rest.
Rustic?
Yes.
Forgettable?
Definitely not!
Glamping Tents
Bohemian Yurt

🧡 Bohemian Yurt Glamping Tent (aka “Romantic Tent”)
If you’re searching for this one on Expedia or other booking platforms, look for the listing titled “Romantic Tent”—but around here, it’s known as the Bohemian Yurt, and it’s giving all the cozy, free-spirited vibes you could ask for.
With its warm, eclectic décor and inviting energy, this tent feels like it was made for journal writing, stargazing, and slow sips of coffee in the morning.
Inside, you’ll find the comforts of a glamping bathroom, a kitchenette with a mini fridge, and a coffee and tea maker for those must-have morning rituals.
It also comes equipped with both a heater and a fan, so you’ll stay comfortable no matter the season. I haven’t stayed in this one yet—but I already know it’s calling my name for a future trip.
Harry’s Wizarding World

Muggles and magical beings alike—prepare to be spellbound.
The Harry’s Wizarding World Tent is a whimsical glamping experience for every Potterhead who’s ever dreamed of getting their letter to Hogwarts.
With house crests, themed décor, and a dorm-style setup of four twin beds, this tent will have you feeling like you’re bunking right inside the wizarding world.
It includes cozy comforts like memory foam mattresses, bed linens, a mini kitchenette with a K-cup coffeemaker, microwave, mini-fridge, and even a private RV-style toilet for nighttime convenience.
Seasonal touches like a fan, heater, and heated blankets keep things comfy no matter the weather.
Full bathrooms and showers are just a short walk away at the Lodge.
Whether you’re a Slytherin or a Hufflepuff, you’ll “sort” right in at this magical little hideaway. Just don’t forget—no pets allowed in this unit, not even if they’re animagus-approved.
Truly Glamorous (50’s Glam)

A 1950s Glamping Dream in Pink
If you’ve ever wanted to live inside a vintage Hollywood daydream, the Truly Glamorous tent might just be your glamping soulmate.
This safari-style tent is a tribute to all things pink, fluffy, frilly, and fabulous, with glam touches straight out of a 1950s movie set.
Think gold accents, faux fur, chrome details, and even a sassy greeting from Marilyn Monroe herself.
The tent sleeps up to four guests, with a queen bed and a twin daybed with a trundle, all topped with gel memory foam mattresses for an extra-luxurious night’s sleep.
You’ll find a vintage-inspired mini fridge and microwave, a K-cup coffee and tea maker, a tiny sink, and even a private RV-style toilet—because glam doesn’t mean giving up comfort.
Seasonal extras like a fan, heater, and heated blankets keep the vibe just right.
This is another one I’ve absolutely added to my “must-stay” list. It’s girly glamping at its finest—no pets allowed, but trust me, you’ll want to keep this glam palace all to yourself anyway.
Tiny Houses
New Orleans Jazz

While it may be listed as the Design Cabin on Expedia, the real name of this vibrant tiny house is New Orleans Jazz—and trust me, it lives up to the title.
The moment you step inside, it’s like you’ve been whisked away to the French Quarter.
With rich colors, bold prints, and whimsical decor, it doesn’t feel like a campground in the Smoky Mountains—it feels like a tucked-away jazz lounge in the heart of NOLA.
Every detail hits the right note, from the trombone hanging from the ceiling turned into a light fixture to all the playful touches that celebrate the soul and rhythm of New Orleans. This is tiny house living with big personality.
If you’re looking for a stay that’s bold, cozy, and full of character, the New Orleans Jazz is calling your name.
Tiny Farmhouse

🐄 Tiny Farmhouse: Cozy Country Charm in a Tiny Home
If farmhouse chic and glamping had a baby, it would be the Tiny Farmhouse. This adorable tiny home is filled with nostalgic barn-inspired decor, from vintage milk jugs and painted roosters to framed photos of farm animals that are so cute you’ll want to name them.
One of my favorite touches?
The glamping bathroom door made to look like an old-fashioned outhouse—it’s quirky, clever, and totally on theme.
Inside, you’ll find a “porch-swing” style queen bed with a gel memory foam mattress that’s as charming as it is comfy, along with two twin beds perfect for extra guests.
It’s fully equipped with all the cozy glamping must-haves: linens, A/C and heat, a K-cup coffee maker, microwave, mini fridge, tiny sink, and a private RV-style toilet for nighttime convenience.
Full bathrooms and showers are just a short walk away at the Lodge.
Bonus: Pets are allowed in this unit with prior approval and a small fee—so your furry friends can come along for the farm-fresh fun too.
Reel-It Inn

The Catch of the Campground (Listed as “Comfort Cabin” on Expedia)
While I didn’t get to peek inside the Reel-It Inn myself—someone had already “hooked” it during my stay—I can tell you this ADA-accessible, fishing-themed tiny house is reeling in fans for a reason.
Tucked beside a babbling creek in the heart of the glampground, this rustic-modern retreat is a favorite among families and fishing enthusiasts alike.
The interior is decked out with fishing-inspired decor and artwork, creating a fun and immersive vibe.
It sleeps up to four guests with two twin beds on the main level and two more tucked into the loft, all with gel memory foam mattresses for extra comfort after a day of casting lines or hiking trails.
You’ll also find all the glamping essentials: A/C and heat, linens, a tiny sink, K-cup coffee maker, microwave, mini fridge, and an RV toilet for nighttime use.
Full bathrooms and showers are available at the Lodge.
Oh—and pets are allowed in this one, too, with prior approval and a small fee.
So if you’re looking for a cozy cabin where the theme is reel-y fun (yep, I said it), this one just might be the catch of the day.
Red Woof Inn
Pet Friendly!

A Tail-Waggin’ Tiny House Getaway (Listed as “Family Cabin” on Expedia)
This is one dog house you’ll actually want to be sent to.
The Red Woof Inn is a pet-friendly tiny house bursting with color, charm, and paw-sitively adorable puppy-themed decor.
From the light fixtures that look like dog toys to the thoughtfully placed dog bowls, this place was made with your four-legged travel companions in mind.
It’s surprisingly spacious too, with room to sleep the whole pack. Downstairs you’ll find a queen bed and twin bunk beds, and upstairs in the roomy loft (yes, even 6-foot-tall guests can stand up!), there are two twin beds—all with gel memory foam mattresses for maximum coziness.
The unit comes stocked with all the glamping basics: linens, A/C and heat, a mini fridge, microwave, K-cup coffeemaker, tiny sink, and an RV toilet for nighttime use.
Full bathrooms and showers are just a short stroll away at the Lodge.
And yes—pets are absolutely allowed with prior approval and a small fee.
Bright, playful, and full of wag-worthy details, the Red Woof Inn is perfect for families, friend groups, and dog lovers who want a stay that’s just as fun as it is functional.
Hero’s Hideaway Shipping Container

A Super Stay in a Shipping Container
Time to channel your inner superhero—cape included.
The Hero’s Hideaway is a sleek black shipping container that looks low-key from the outside, but step through the door and BAM! You’re surrounded by classic DC heroes like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and The Flash.
And yes—there are actual superhero capes and masks hanging by the door so you can suit up and embrace your alter ego (no radioactive spiders required).
This unit features two full-size bunk beds, a cozy sofa, and an eating banquette, making it perfect for families or friend groups who want a fun, themed stay that doesn’t skimp on comfort.
It also comes with all the glamping essentials: linens, A/C and heat, tiny sink, mini fridge, microwave, K-cup coffeemaker, and a private RV toilet for nighttime convenience.
One of the coolest features? It’s the only accommodation at Gorgeous Stays with a covered wooden deck—complete with a bench, giving you a shady spot to relax after saving the day. (Or after s’mores. Either way.)
Note: No pets allowed in this unit—even if they’re super.
Tent Platforms

⛺ Tent Platforms: A Step Up From Ground Camping
If you love tent camping but prefer not to wake up on uneven ground (or in a puddle), the tent platforms at Gorgeous Stays are a great way to elevate your outdoor experience—literally. These wooden platforms are nestled close to one another near the Lodge and bathhouse, making it easy to access shared amenities while still enjoying that fresh mountain air.
Just a 2-minute walk to the Lodge and restrooms, the platforms don’t have level ground next to them for pitching a second tent, so your tent must fit on the platform itself. Parking is not directly next to the sites, so be prepared to carry your gear a short distance (trust me—it’s worth the short walk).
There’s freshwater and a cleaning sink available in the screened area on the Lodge’s lower level, plus all the great communal amenities like the fire pits, food pavilions, game room, and gorgeous bathhouse.
Up to 1–2 pets are allowed here with prior approval and a small fee, making this a great option for furry travel companions.
🔥 Important to know: No open fires at the platforms themselves—only in the designated community fire pits. And remember, this is bear country, so never store food in your tent!
🌄 Perfect for Appalachian Trail thru-hikers looking to rest, recharge, and socialize with other adventurers—these platforms offer a low-cost stay with just enough comfort to help you feel human again.
Park & Plug Spot
🚐 Park and Plug Spot: Van-Life Friendly
If you’re traveling in a converted camper van and looking for a simple spot to recharge—literally—Gorgeous Stays has a single “park and plug” site.
This space is best suited for vehicles 15 feet or shorter, so it’s not designed for larger RVs or trailers.
The spot includes electric hookup only (no water), making it ideal for van-lifers who need a safe, peaceful place to park for the night while enjoying access to all the campground’s shared amenities—like the bathhouse, lodge, fire pits, and more.
It’s basic, but it’s beautiful—and the views sure beat a Walmart parking lot.

The Owners
💛 Meet the Owners: Scott & Wendi

One of the things that makes Gorgeous Stays so special isn’t just the creative glamping setups or the stunning Smoky Mountain location—it’s the people behind it. Scott and Wendi, the husband-and-wife duo who dreamed of owning a glamping campground and who recently took over Gorgeous Stays, are two of the kindest, most genuine people I’ve ever met.
This isn’t just a job for them—it’s a calling. You can feel the heart and soul they’ve poured into every detail, from the decor in each unit to the way they treat every guest like family, not just a renter.
Scott is a semi-retired chiropractor who now puts his energy into helping weary hikers stretch out those trail-tired muscles. And both Scott and Wendi are often on call to pick up Appalachian Trail hikers—whether someone’s dealing with an injury, in need of a hot shower, conversation or just needs a little rest and reset.
In fact, while I was touring the property, Wendi was literally on the phone coordinating help for an injured hiker who needed support.
That’s just who they are. If you’re lucky, you might even catch them handing out a little Trail Magic on the AT!
At Gorgeous Stays, you’re not just booking a campsite—you’re joining a community built on kindness, hospitality, and a whole lot of heart.
