What Section of Raleigh does this Itinerary Cover?
This itinerary plants you right in the heart of Glenwood South, with things to do in Downtown Raleigh’s vibrant dining and entertainment hub and also into the warehouse district.
We’re talking prime territory here!
You’ll be exploring a range of about two miles, so if you’re up for some fresh air, lace up your walking shoes and enjoy the stroll—no need to hop in the car unless you really want to.
If you prefer to drive and find a parking spot, though, that’s always an option. Either way, you’ll be right in the action without the hassle of long distances. You’ll find what you need to know about parking down below towards the end of this article.
1 Day Itinerary For the Perfect Nerdy Day in Downtown Raleigh
Breakfast: But First, Coffee & Crepes
Press Coffee & Crepes
I have the perfect spot for you to fuel up before your ultimate nerdy day, I can’t recommend Press Coffee and Crepes enough.
This European-inspired coffee house with a Southern twist has a seasonal menu that keeps things fresh, offering everything from sweet and savory crepes to sandwiches and salads.
My favorite is the steak and egg crepe, and let me tell you, the portions are generous, steak is tender and the flavors? Unbelievable.
But the real star was the “froached” egg on top—a poached egg fried in panko crumbs, which was an absolute game changer. I’m dreaming of the day when I can have it again.
Plus, with mimosas and coffee, you can kick off your day in nerd-approved style.
Morning Activity: Survive the Zombie Apocolypse
After you’ve fueled up on crepes and coffee, it’s time to dive into survival mode—zombie apocalypse style!
For a unique way to explore Raleigh, I suggest Zombie Scavengers, where you’ll use an app on your phone to gather essential items to survive the zombie apocalypse.
You can roam the city in any order, complete challenges, and rack up points to ensure your survival. The best part?
You’ve got a remote host to help you if you need it, but it’s all about having fun while outsmarting the undead.
Compete against other survival teams across the country, and see if you’ve got what it takes to stay alive!
Lunch: Survival of the Fullest
Refueling After the Apocalypse
After surviving the zombie apocalypse, what better way to refuel than with a classic slice of NY-style pizza from Demo’s Pizza and Deli? Because really, nothing says “I made it through” like cheesy, pepperoni goodness!
I personally love their cheese or pepperoni slice—simple, yet packed with flavor. And if you’re feeling like balancing out the carbs, I find that their Greek salad is a fresh, flavorful sidekick.
The menu is stacked, too, with everything from salads to hot sandwiches, calzones, and even desserts.
After a morning of outwitting zombies, you’ll want to treat yourself to a slice (or two).
Ok, and dessert too.
Afternoon Activity: Get Your Print On
A 3D Muscle Workout for Your Imagination
After lunch, it’s time to level up your creativity with a 3D printing class at Ecovate 3D, a one-of-a-kind shop that people literally drive from miles around to visit.
There’s no other 3D printing store quite like it in the nation, and trust me, it’s worth the hype.
The shop is run by Beverly Tan, who’s worked in casting for Shark Tank—how cool is that?
They offer a range of classes, from 3D Printing 101 to Custom Cosplay Prop Design.
When I took a class with Beverly, I made a keychain, and I was blown away by how fun and hands-on the experience was.
Whether you’re printing your own earrings, tackling a LEGO project, or creating something totally unique, this place is a geek’s paradise.

Dinner: “Meat” Your Match
For dinner, it’s time to go big with some classic North Carolina barbecue at The Pit in Raleigh’s Warehouse District.
The Pit is only a 12 minute walk or a 3 minute drive from Ecovate 3D.
I’m talking about my favorite, tender, melt-in-your-mouth brisket, creamy mashed potatoes, mac & cheese and hush puppies that are bursting with flavor.
North Carolina is known for its legendary barbecue joints, and proudly carries on that tradition with pit-cooked, whole-hog barbecue.
The pigs are raised right here in the state using free-range farming practices, so you’re getting the real deal.
Whether you’re in the mood for brisket, ribs, or even barbecue tofu, The Pit is the place to be—and let’s be honest, Southern hospitality never tasted so good.
Evening Activity: Game over? Not Yet!
Level Up Your Night at Boxcar Arcade
After devouring some epic barbecue, it’s time to let your inner gamer run wild at Boxcar Bar + Arcade, conveniently right next door to The Pit.
This place has been consistently voted one of the best bars in Raleigh, and once you step inside, it’s easy to see why.
Boxcar is a gamer’s paradise, featuring a full bar, dozens of arcade classics, and a year-round patio with live music on the weekends.
Whether you’re an 80s baby reliving your arcade glory days, a craft beer lover, or just looking for a fun, laid-back spot to end the night, Boxcar is the late night place that you need in your life.
Grab a drink, hit up some of your favorite childhood games, and soak up the nostalgic vibes—it’s the perfect way to end your nerdy day in Raleigh!
Unless you’re ready to literally level up!
Sunset Level Unlocked: Drinks and Views at The Willard
If you’re a sunset chaser like me, the perfect sunset view is the way to wrap up your day, and The Willard Rooftop Bar at the AC Marriott is the spot.
Right across from Ecovate 3D, this rooftop gem offers stunning views of the city skyline as the sun sets, casting a golden glow over Raleigh.
Whether you’re there for the sunset, the drinks, or both, you won’t be disappointed.
My go-to? The Pretty in Pink cocktail—it’s as tasty as it is beautiful.
With a selection of food and drinks to enjoy, this is the ultimate way to wind down after a day of nerdy adventures.
